That’s because while they hit high-performance notes, they are still useful to families and people that need to tow boats, bikes and other fun weekend play things. At the same time, however, they are the antithesis of sports cars. They target top-end speeds only imaginable from a six-figure supercar and they also feel most at home on the track. Super SUVs are like sports cars in many ways. This top-end segment also is responsible for breeding a very niche group of utility vehicles: super SUVs. Utility vehicles have not only become more refined, some are painstakingly luxurious (and expensive). Today there are far more options than just the clunky, truck-like giants that were commonplace just a decade ago. Over the past five years, changing consumer preferences have driven automakers to focus on their SUVs and crossovers offerings over the cars in their lineups–some going so far as to abandon the sedan segment altogether.
